Frequently Asked Questions

1. TimeTec Access - How does it work?

TimeTec Access is a smart mobile-based access control system, where the Admin is made responsible for managing the devices - the BLE controllers, the access points, the access times and the user accounts in the cloud server.

To use the App, login into the App and download the access permission, and the App will list down the authorized access points for that particular user. When that user approaches an access point that he is permitted to access, i.e. doors, gates, turnstiles, he needs to send an unlock command from the App to the matching access devices.

When using QF Plus with TimeTec Access, it has to be connected to the cloud server to download all the user credentials and access permissions and store it into its memory. When a user wants to access a door through a QF Plus, it will scan and verify the user accordingly.

When a user is verified, the QF Plus will compare the access permission against the settings to send the unlock command to the TimeTec BLE controller.

2. TimeTec Access is using Bluetooth Low Energy to communicate, would this technology persist if the smartphone technology progresses into something better?

Bluetooth is the most common communication channel amongst many electronic and IT system for now, and we expect it to last for many years. However, TimeTec will always be keeping up with the technology, and we will be introducing the latest technology when it becomes available.

3. Which devices are compatible with TimeTec Access?

6. Apart from controlling the door, what other access points can connect to TimeTec Access?

As access control software, TimeTec Access can connect to other access such as barrier gates, turnstiles, smart lock, wireless alarm, siren kit, smart surveillance and more.

7. How easy are the settings of TimeTec Access?

There is a wizard in pdf format that you can download for step-by-step setup instruction.

Unlocking Methods
1. When using TimeTec BLE, TimeTec Access offers four types of unlocking methods, and there is one known as automatic unlock. Would the lock unlock itself automatically when I approach a door/barrier?

You must make sure that you have launched the App, and your smartphone has to be unlocked before you reach the door/barrier. When you fulfil both requirements, the App can send the unlock command to the TimeTec BLE at the door/barrier.

2. When using TimeTec BLE, can I use all four unlocking methods at different times, or I have to stick to one method all the time?

You can use any methods at any time at any doors. A different unlocking method works best with a different access point.

3. Can you explain how QF Plus control access?

To use QF Plus with TimeTec Access, QF Plus needs to connect to the cloud server to download all user credentials and access permissions to be stored into its memory. When a user accessing a door through QF Plus, it will compare the access permission against the settings before sending the unlock command to the TimeTec BLE controller.

Temporary Pass
1. I want to give a temporary pass to my assistant when I'm abroad; how would I know when she accesses my space?

Temporary pass is one of TimeTec Access advantages. You can create a temporary pass via the App, and whenever a person is accessing your space using it, the cloud server will notify you immediately on your smartphone.

2. When I give a temporary pass to authorized staff, can this staff share the pass around?

No. For security reasons, a temporary pass is assigned based on a user account. For example, when you created a temporary pass for John, he is the only person who can receive the pass in his mobile app. He can use it but not to send/share it with others. Any access to your space using that pass, John should be accountable as the pass is his.

1. TimeTec Access is charged per door per month. When the subscription fee is not paid in time, would it create a problem for us to access our premises?

If you are using FingerTec Terminals, you can still access your premises. However, the door transactions are not viewable in your TimeTec Access account, and you won't be able to manage the terminals from the TimeTec Access. If you are using the TimeTec BLE, you won't be able to access the door as there is no valid license available. Therefore we suggest you opt for auto-renewal to ensure a smooth renewal process. Also, our system will send an email reminder 30 days before your subscription ends to your valid email.

2. The host of the locks can give a temporary pass to anybody he wishes. Must the recipient pay for the license even though he/she is going to use it only once?

License is charged per door and not by the user.

1. Can I use both the smartphone and the key for double security?

Yes. You can still install a standard door lock even when you install TimeTec Access. The door lock could be your extra security after work hours. During the day, the door can be unlocked via the App. When you are ready to leave the premises, lock the door with a key for double security.

2. What happens during a blackout? Would all the doors and barriers be without security?

The door lock system is powered by electricity, and when the power is cut without having any backup, all systems will go down, and doors unlocked. Therefore, it is recommended to install rechargeable backup batteries to the door lock system for extra security.

3. If my smartphone is stolen or lost, can I log in TimeTec Access from another smartphone?

Yes. When you log in from a new smartphone, the App is going to detect a change of security code which is your mobile ID under your profile. Then, the cloud server will send an authentication code to your registered email. You must insert the new authentication code into the new smartphone to activate the account whereas your account in the old smartphone gets deleted immediately.

4. Is it safe to lock the main door using BLE?

Yes, because the installation of the device is done inside the premises, and it is not exposed. However, it is advisable to also install an additional key lock for extra protection when the premises are left empty such as at night, to increase the security level.

5. A QF Plus scans visitors faces. How secure is this method, and does it comply with PDPA?

TimeTec system does not store user photos as credentials, instead, it converts the face image into a digital template, and the process is irreversible. When the storage is not in the form of a picture, the template is proprietary and can only be used on our solution.
