{"id":4180,"date":"2026-02-23T12:21:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T04:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.timeteccloud.com\/blog\/?p=4180"},"modified":"2026-02-23T12:30:40","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T04:30:40","slug":"trust-in-multi-channel-parking-payments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timeteccloud.com\/blog\/trust-in-multi-channel-parking-payments\/","title":{"rendered":"Trust in Multi-Channel Parking Payments"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>By Teh Hon Seng, CEO, TimeTec Group<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Conversation on How System Design Prevents Transaction Theft<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past few years, Malaysia\u2019s parking industry has been transforming rapidly \u2014 shifting from&nbsp;<strong>hardware-centric operations<\/strong>&nbsp;to a&nbsp;<strong>software-driven ecosystem<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Users and operators have moved from&nbsp;<strong>ticketing to cashless<\/strong>, from&nbsp;<strong>cashless to touchless<\/strong>, and now toward&nbsp;<strong>connected digital experiences beyond parking<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But progress brings complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Payment handling has evolved from a <strong>single channel<\/strong> (TNG card) to\u00a0<strong>dual channels<\/strong>\u00a0(bank cards like MyDebit, Visa, Mastercard), and now into a\u00a0<strong>multi-channel environment<\/strong>\u00a0that includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:45% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"589\" src=\"https:\/\/www.timeteccloud.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/mobile-phone-make-purchases-access-payment-information-transaction-checkmark-approved-1024x589.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4185 size-large\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.timeteccloud.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/mobile-phone-make-purchases-access-payment-information-transaction-checkmark-approved-1024x589.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.timeteccloud.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/mobile-phone-make-purchases-access-payment-information-transaction-checkmark-approved-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.timeteccloud.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/mobile-phone-make-purchases-access-payment-information-transaction-checkmark-approved-768x442.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.timeteccloud.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/mobile-phone-make-purchases-access-payment-information-transaction-checkmark-approved-1536x883.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.timeteccloud.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/mobile-phone-make-purchases-access-payment-information-transaction-checkmark-approved-2048x1178.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<ul>\n<li>TNG Card (BAU &amp; ABT)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bankcards (MyDebit, Visa, Mastercard)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Direct integrations with multiple eWallets, bank apps, and parking apps<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DuitNow QR payments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Online season parking via FPX, cards, and eWallets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>POS terminals for valet, enforcement, and validation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, even a&nbsp;<strong>small parking site<\/strong>&nbsp;may involve multiple payment streams. For operators managing&nbsp;<strong>many sites or large facilities<\/strong>, settlement and reconciliation are becoming increasingly difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is exactly why&nbsp;<strong>TimeTec Settlement Portal<\/strong>&nbsp;exists, to simplify&nbsp;<strong>multi-channel payment management<\/strong>&nbsp;and provide an&nbsp;<strong>aggregated collection mechanism<\/strong>&nbsp;on behalf of parking owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But this convenience raises a deeper, more uncomfortable question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How can parking owners be sure that the system provider will not manipulate transactions?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, I had a discussion with our Head of Development. The conversation stayed in my mind, because it goes straight to the heart of&nbsp;<strong>digital trust<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Conversation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I:<\/strong> If a dishonest solution provider wants to play dirty, how could they steal money?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HD:<\/strong> Not difficult. If a site has 1,000 transactions a day, the system could simply remove some of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I:<\/strong>&nbsp;But what if the system is cloud-based, showing transactions in real time to the customer? How could that still happen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HD:<\/strong> The provider could modify the system to automatically move certain transactions into another hidden database, so they never appear in the customer\u2019s view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I:<\/strong> Wow\u2026 just like that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HD:<\/strong> Yes. Technically, it\u2019s simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I:<\/strong> Then can we design something to block this kind of manipulation at the software level?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HD:<\/strong> Honestly, no. If you own the software and intend to cheat, nobody can fully stop you.<br>In the end, it becomes a matter of trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I:<\/strong> That\u2019s not good enough. Even if a company has strong integrity and reputation, a truly trustworthy system must&nbsp;<strong>prove<\/strong>&nbsp;it cannot cheat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HD:<\/strong>&nbsp;Maybe we could hire a third-party auditor to certify us every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I:<\/strong> If I were the customer, I might still worry the auditor could be compromised. Trust must come from the&nbsp;<strong>system itself<\/strong>, not from paperwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(We paused for a while)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then a thought struck me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Breakthrough Insight<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I:<\/strong> Every parking transaction has&nbsp;<strong>two records<\/strong>, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Entry record<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exit transaction record<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If someone wants to steal, they must delete&nbsp;<strong>both<\/strong>. But before the car exits, the&nbsp;<strong>entry record already exists<\/strong>&nbsp;in the live system. So, what if we assign a&nbsp;<strong>running ID<\/strong>&nbsp;to every entry and force every exit to match that sequence? Any missing number would immediately expose manipulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HD:<\/strong>&nbsp;Yes\u2026 that would work. A running entry ID can reveal missing transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But wait \u2014 what if someone avoids inserting certain entry IDs in the first place,<br>then deletes with the exit records in pairs later?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(He paused.)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We could strengthen it further by&nbsp;<strong>cross-checking with the vehicle counting system<\/strong>.<br>And if customers still want independent assurance, they could run their own small monitoring script to detect discrepancies and trigger alerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I:<\/strong> Exactly. That\u2019s how trust should be built. Not by asking customers to believe us \u2014 but by designing a system where cheating&nbsp;<strong>cannot hide<\/strong>. Let\u2019s make sure this&nbsp;<strong>running entry ID mechanism<\/strong>&nbsp;becomes a core feature. And the future of parking will not be decided by who has the biggest machine, but by <strong>who builds the most trustworthy system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At TimeTec, we
